The NACSIS-CAT records usually have NDLSH (the National Diet Library Subject headings) and BSH (Basic Subject Headings), and that Subject and Shelfmark entries should be entered in Kanji. Readers should note that not all records in the database contain subject headings, and that a browse of this index will therefore not reveal the entire national stock in any given category.

The shelfmark index will probably be of more interest to librarians than readers. Shelfmark should be entered in their correct form, observing capitalisation, spaces and punctuation where necessary.

ISBN and ISSN terms are truncated, and hyphens are ignored, so that the term 4-00- (or 400) will display all books in the database published by Iwanami shoten.
